CareerBuilder Gives Job Seekers Inside Peek At Who They're Up Against for the Job And What It Takes to Get Hired
PR Newswire

CHICAGO, July 28, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- How many people have applied to the job I'm interested in? How much experience do they have? How do I compare in terms of education? This valuable insider information from CareerBuilder's popular Job Competition Snapshot is now available to all job seekers — with additional insights delivered once a candidate applies to a job. All information is free of charge and designed to give job seekers greater visibility into their chances of landing an interview and ultimately the job.

Three in four workers (77 percent) who applied to a job through various sources in the last year said they never heard back from the employer1, often resulting in candidates feeling like their application fell into a black hole.

"Our Job Competition Snapshot provides more transparency into the likelihood of being called by an employer based on how you stack up against other candidates," said Matt Ferguson, CEO for CareerBuilder. "By removing some of the speculation, we can help candidates determine whether they should invest time in applying for a particular job, as well as help those who are qualified feel confident that their application is likely to be noticed."

CareerBuilder's Job Competition Snapshot aggregates user-generated information from all applicants for a particular job listing, protecting the privacy of each applicant. Previously, job seekers could only access this information if they applied to the job. Now, every job listing on CareerBuilder's site enables job seekers to sign in and instantly view:

  • The number of candidates who applied to the position
  • The average years of experience candidates have
  • The average level of education candidates have

Those who decide to apply to the job can immediately see more in-depth insights from a hiring status report, called Hire Insider. The report includes information on:

  • Applications that have been viewed so far
  • The number of applicants who are currently employed
  • The number of applicants who attached a cover letter
  • Top college majors of applicants
  • A more detailed breakdown of applicants' years of experience
  • States where applicants live
  • Average current salaries of applicants
  • Average salaries of those with the highest degrees

"The information is automatically updated as other candidates apply, so job seekers can continually assess the competitive landscape in real time," Ferguson added. "No other job site offers this level of free data to help job seekers make more informed, strategic decisions about their job search."

Additionally, CareerBuilder has created 300 Career Details pages, which provide insights on skills needed, educational advice and relevant salary data for specific job titles. Candidates are able to sign up for job alerts for the occupation they're viewing for a particular location, see top pay by location, check related job searches and gain insider tips (see example here). Candidates can find all of the Career Pages under the "Browse Jobs" header on the CareerBuilder homepage.
